Movie #3: La La Land

       In the opening scene of this film, it starts from the camera going from the sky to the freeway. You can hear the music of each car as the camera passes by showing diversity between everyone, I feel. It finally stops at one car where there is a girl who is singing and she jumps out and the camera stays in front of her as she gets out and starts dancing. As everyone joins in , the camera angles switch from in front of them to behind the dancers to either lead or follow them. The sound in this is seen from the singer who starts it and then the rest of the actors join in. At the end of the opening scene, they all jump back in their cars and the honking is continued as in the beginning. No jobs were introduced in the opening scene either. The budget this film had was $30 million and they made $445 million. This film has won multiple big awards and been nominated for just as many.

Movie #2: Titanic

          In the opening of this film, the first thing shown looks like an actual clip from the day the ship left port, with everyone waving, so it's used as a flashback. Then after the flashback is shown in the warm colors, the deep blue water takes over the screen with small waves as it presents the title of the movie, Titanic. The camera then is submerged into the water as the submarines come free falling down towards the camera and as they pass the camera, the camera tilts down to look down at the submarines as they slowly disappear into the depths of darkness. The opening music starts as a deep chord and then transitions into a very sad sounding song being sung by a lady and it is a common song heard in the movie. You can hear the submarine going into the water and passing the camera.  The recognized jobs in the opening credits seemed to be just the production companies, Paramount Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox, and Lightstorm Entertainment. This movie, filmed in 1997, had a budget of $200 million and the film made $2.187 billion. It has won a lot of awards, including an Oscar award and a Golden Globe award, and has been nominated for even more.

Research #1

Movie 1~ Forrest Gump
       In the first two minutes (opening credits), the whole town is shown on the screen following a feather around. The feather is seen at the beginning and end of the movie so its basically a recap moment. At the end of the two minutes, Tom Hanks (Forrest) is shown by following the feather from his feet up as he puts the feather in his case. The music in the background is a very peaceful and happy song played on a piano with maybe an orchestra accompanying it which makes it a very beautiful piece to listen to. The camera shots used are maybe an aerial shot because its viewing the whole city from a higher angle as the camera floats around and follows the feather. It could also be a dolly as the feather hits the ground and follows it on the ground. The jobs seen in the opening credits are casting, co-producer, executive music producer, visual effects supervisor, costume designer, music, editor, production designer, director of photography, screenplay writer, producer, and the director. The films budget was $55 million and the film made almost $667 million. It has won a lot of awards and been nominated for even more.

Project Selection ~ Magazine

        The magazine production could also be a good pick for me. Creating a magazine would allow me to experience the amount of work that could possibly be needed to actually create a magazine. I could also go into photo journalism with learning how to create a magazine. I'm a photographer so that would be a benefit for me seeing that I could take decent pictures for the magazine. I'm also a pretty decent writer so I could come up with my articles and ideas for it. I can also interview people quite well so that could come in handy. But I don't think I would have any challenges because it all comes pretty easily to me. So I don't think this project is the best for me because I like to challenge myself.

Project Selection ~ My Decision

      I have chosen to do the film project because I think having a film making experience will better be in my career and further life choices. I am fairly good at editing and I am pretty creative when it comes to these things. I am also experienced with cameras. This project will allow me to create an opening to a film in under two minutes in the most creative way possible that time allows. I have not decided what genre my partner and I are going to do yet. I will be working in a group with one other person. My partner is a skilled director, actress, and she has access to a group of actors that will help us. I plan on having her write the script and have her find our actors. I plan on filming the movie for most parts and editing the movie along with her.

Project Selection ~ Film

         Film production has always been an interest to me because I want to be a professional photographer when I am older so having a film background might help me later in my career and help me get into an art college. The film production should come pretty easily to me because I am experienced at editing pictures but I don't know how I am with film yet, but we will find out. Also, creating a film will be a fun experience seeing the process all come together. I am quite experienced with cameras so that will create an advantage for me and my partner. The only issues, I feel, I will have will be that I am very precise with my editing and judgmental with my own work so it will take some time with editing. I also am not very good with writing scripts or putting my ideas into action, but that is why I will find someone who is good at that. Based on the comments of the Ferris Bueller film, I can tell that it will take time to create this opening to a film. I also acknowledge that it will require patience and hard work to create this film.
